my shop: happy-plush-plush!
Great work.
Most of my work is about social spaces and the tensions in the space, between the space and the people, and between the people - did that make any sense? I guess, it goes under the idea that all spaces aren't nuetral. I'm interested in using visual analogies to represent tensions that you get with people in spaces, in the elevator, cars, downtown, hallways, social events, etc. etc.
With the society today (western society), it is the popular understanding that the construction of spaces are merely the-way-things-are; the use of the automobile, the way we create buildings, etc. etc. So, really it's similar to Derrida's 'deconstruction' notion - or post-modern/post-structuralist thought - that i'm interested in. However, fellow artists often see humour and some feminist traits in my works.
Beyond all that artspeak - I just started painting when I was young as a way to express the thoughts I was having at that age. After going through art school i've learnt to articulate them. I try to deconstruct, question, examine, criticize the way I/we live.

By the pricking of my thumbs,
something wicked this way comes....

It's also probably an increase in the amount of labour that's relaly made my work better. I'm not a very patient person.. (so why the eff do I paint?) - so yea, in the beggining I didn't want to spend lots of time, and lots of money on something I didn't like. After having success, I started to slowly increase the work hours on each piece. Now I'm more confident, and can make bigger decisions on buying expensive materials etc etc..
it's also helped that i've been at art school, in a community where many others are in the same boat. However, none of my friends are really painters.. but all are quite conceptual thinkers who I can bounce off ideas with, and work to the morning. My peers critiques on my work are the most influencial to me, and i'm thankful that you've had the time to give me your thoughts.
